Ottawa police say two people have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of an 81-year-old woman.

They say they were called to investigate a suspicious death after the woman was taken to hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Police say that Maria Desousa had already died when she arrived at the hospital.

They say 40-year-old Paulo Desousa and 36-year-old Danielle LeBlanc were charged with first-degree murder.

Police didn't say whether there was any relation between the accused and the deceased.
