24-year-old man dead after Edmonton collision; police investigating

EDMONTON — A 24-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle collision in Edmonton's south end early Sunday.

Police say a 2008 Jeep Wrangler was taking the northbound off-ramp from Highway 2 when it collided with a 2009 Kia Rio heading east on 41 Avenue Southwest at about 2:30 a.m.

They say initial reports indicate that the Jeep had failed to stop for a red light.

All three occupants of the Kia were taken to hospital, where one of the passengers was pronounced dead.

The 50-year-old man driving the Kia and a second 24-year-old male passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the 28-year-old man driving the Jeep was not hurt.

Police say speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the collision.
