Woman charged after allegedly punching police officer in the face twice

KINGSTON, Ont. — Police say a woman has been charged with assaulting a peace officer after she allegedly punched a police officer in the face twice in Kingston, Ont.

Local police say the incident happened early Thursday morning, when the woman walked into the middle of a road while yelling and screaming.

They say officers found the woman and asked her to get off the road for her own safety, but she refused and used "defamatory remarks" towards police.

They say the officers then approached the woman to try to help her off the road so she wouldn't be hit by oncoming vehicles, and she allegedly punched one of them in the face two times.

Police say the officers tried to restrain the woman, who they say was trying to bite them.

The 21-year-old was held for a bail hearing.
